UNICEF engaged APEX for third party media monitoring polio eradication initiative. The aim is to generate a knowledge base that helps UNICEF and partners in the polio program with a holistic knowledge base on diverse media characteristics – time, space, and resources media is spending on polio and related issues and the perception of the polio program activities.

Detailed Description of the Actual Services

A team of 20 members in APEX’s Media Monitoring Center in Islamabad and four teams in Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta monitor polio news on a daily basis. A report consisting of polio news in English, Urdu and regional language newspapers and TV channels is delivered by 12 noon daily along with news clipping from print and electronic media. A total of 40 newspapers and 32 TV channels are monitored around the clock for polio news. At the end of the month, an analytical report on the month’s media coverage of polio news is shared with UNICEF. apart from the quantitative analysis, the report enlists media trends in covering polio.
